As Barbara Weston in Empty Nest and Buddy in Family, actress Kristy McNichol became a household name back in the 70s and 80s. It was shocking then, as she decided to hang up her boots and retire from showbiz after her 1998 show Invasion America.
Kristy later said that being a young closeted actress at the time was stressful and she does not regret leaving the entertainment world. She was an acting teacher in a private school for many years after retirement and also finds the time to donate and work with charities. She is currently worth $7 million.
