When Susan Boyle started singing I Dreamed a Dream from Les Misérables on the third season of Britain’s Got Talent, everyone was shocked with her voice. Although she only placed second in the finals, her appearance on the how opened many opportunities for her musical career. Boyle said she was absolutely astounded by the audience’s reaction to her ‘looks’ on the show – which were pretty negative in nature.

She even told The Sunday Times that how she looked like didn’t really matter because BGT is a singing contest not a beauty contest. Nevertheless, Boyle made an effort to change her appearance and lose weight, since she’s now a musical star. The singer’s hair looks different today, and she now wears makeup, including eye shadow and mascara.
