1981 – Irene Sáez from Venezuela
Miss Venezuela Irene Sáez won the 1981 Miss Universe pageant at New York City. She was only 19 at the time, and would go on to travel the world as Miss Universe for a year. After returning back home, she turned to politics and was elected as the mayor of Chachao, Caracas. She would be re-elected for her good work, and in 1998, announced her presidential campaign. She finished third in the race, but in 1999, she became the Governor of Nueva Esparta. She has been living in Miami, Florida for over 2 decades now.
