1985 – Deborah Carthy-Deu from Puerto Rico
The second Puerto Rican to win the Miss Universe crown was Deborah Carthy-Deu, who won in 1985. She was trained in classical ballet and even took dance classes in NYC when she was 13. She danced and was a soloist with the National Ballet Theatre of Puerto Rico. After she won the crown, she toured the world for a year, before going to Argentina to act in the telenovela El Cisne Blanco. Back home in Puerto Rico, she continued to act and host several TV shows.
