Johnny Carson’s Bids Adieu
It’s a huge thing for a long-time late night show to retire and for someone else to fill their shoes. But when Johnny Carson left The Tonight Show, it was one of the biggest TV goodbyes. Although Jay Leno officially replaced Carson, his last TV appearance would be on David Letterman’s show, and he even let the veteran host take his seat, out of respect. The audience went nuts when Carson walked on to the stage and they gave him a standing ovation when he got up to leave after shaking Letterman’s hand.
