Cher’s Son, Chaz Bono – Activist

With a distinctive voice and interesting dresses, singer, actress and TV personality Cher was able to dominate the music scene in the 70s and 60s, when it was pretty much a man’s game. The ‘Believe’ singer formed a rock-folk duo with her then husband Sonny, and they called themselves Sonny & Cher. Although they parted and divorced on acrimonious terms, they still co-parented their only daughter, Chastity.

We first met Chastity when she appeared along with her parents on The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour show. Chastity was raised a girl, but always felt she was a boy, and hid this feeling from her parents until she turned 18. In 2008, he underwent a gender re-assignment surgery and changed his name to Chaz. From a mediocre musical career, Chaz instead became an activist for people just like him who were struggling with their identity.
