Margaret O’Brien – Born in 1937
As “America’s Sweetheart,” Margaret O’Brien, who started acting at age 4, rose to fame as one of the most well-liked young performers of the Hollywood Golden Age. Alongside Judy Garland, O’Brien earned an Academy Award for “Outstanding Child Actress” in the 1994 film Meet Me in St. Louis. Her other works of accomplishment were Little Women, The Secret Garden, and Our Vines Have Tender Grapes. O’Brien struggled to escape the fame she had experienced as a youngster and tried hard not to be typecast. Before switching over to television, she mostly acted in independent, small-budget movies.
