Jimmy Stewart – U.S. Air Force
We’ve heard of actors having to shed off a couple of pounds for roles, but in Jimmy Stewart’s case, that was his reality when enlisting with the Air Force Reserve. Stewart joined the U.S. Air Corps in 1941, and he served during World War II as well as the Vietnam War.
He soon became a Brigadier General, as a pilot, making him the only actor to have risen to the highest rank while in the military. Stewart became a Major General in 1985, and he was also awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
