Elvis Presley – U.S. Army
Elvis Presley sparked a media frenzy when he was drafted in 1958. Hundreds of paparazzi and well-wishers descended on Arkansas to capture the moment when “the King” arrived for his training at the Fort Chaffee military camp. Presley attended Fort Hood for his basic training.
He was able to squeeze in recording sessions, during a break he took almost three months after enlisting, to churn out five songs. Presley became part of the Friedberg-based 3rd Armored Division. During his time with the army, Presley was introduced to karate and amphetamines. Presley donated his army salary.
