Buster Keaton – American Expeditionary Forces
The late Buster Keaton made a name for himself as a comedic silent film star and stunt performer. Keaton responded to the call of duty during World War I, and he was stationed in France with the American Expeditionary Forces.
Keaton’s unit, the 40th Infantry Division, notably stayed intact, unlike other divisions that were split up as the war progressed to provide replacements. His time in uniform saw him suffer from an ear infection, which unfortunately ended up impairing his hearing permanently. Keaton died in 1966 after losing the battle to lung cancer at the age of 70.
