Johnny Cash – U.S. Air Force Security Service
With more than 90 million record sales to his name, Johnny Cash is still remembered for his contributions to the music industry. Cash responded to the call of duty, and he served as a morse code operator with the Air Force Security Service.
Part of the duties Cash was entrusted with included intercepting morse code transmissions exchanged between the Soviet troops. Cash served for four years before earning an honorable discharge and returning to Texas. He died in 2003, just four months following the death of his wife, June Carter.
