Don Rickles – U.S. Navy
The late Donald Rickles found his niche through insult comedy. Like most young men fresh from school, he joined the U.S. Navy when World War II was waging. Rickles served as a seaman aboard the USS Cyrene.
In 1946, Rickles received an honorable discharge from the Navy. He then attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, which helps start his career with bit parts on TV. Work wasn’t flowing, and that’s when Rickles turned to comedy performances at clubs. Rickles died in 2017 due to kidney failure.
