Charlton Heston – U.S. Air Force
The late Charlton Heston enjoyed a six-decade-long career in showbiz, and he’s perhaps best known for featuring in The Ten Commandments as Moses. Before making his way to Hollywood, Heston joined the U.S. Air Force in 1944.
Heston had just exchanged vows with Lydia Marie Clarke at the time, but he chose to offer his services to his country as a radio operator/aerial gunner. He spent two years aboard a bomber that was stationed in Alaska. Heston became a staff sergeant as part of the 77th Bombardment Squadron. Pneumonia claimed Heston’s life in 2008.
